Previous position info: Our Cake Plus-Size Resale team is growing! We’re hiring part-time Shop Associates for approx 8-18 hours a week. We are looking for folks who can help us embody our shop values as we continue to create a transformative space for our incredible fat community.
While there is potential for some weekday shifts, weekend availability is required. If you are not available for shifts at least two weekend days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday), please do not apply.

Shop Associates focus on:
Our customer experience: engaging with customers in-store, over the phone, and virtually (social media and sometimes via website and/or email).
Maintaining a chic, organized sales floor: hanging and organizing clothing and accessories, light cleaning, dressing mannequins/displays, and tidying as needed.
Sales Transactions + Operating the register: operating our register/computer, managing transactions and handling cash, credit cards, gift cards, and customer store credit accounts, and tracking or managing invoicing/social media sales.
Opening + closing duties: opening or closing the shop, completing opening or closing lists, securing the building, and maintaining safe possession of a shop key.
Buying + Inventorying: learning our buying process, gaining familiarity with plus-size brands, interacting with customers selling their clothes to Cake, selectively buying outright in line with our shop needs, inventorying clothing in our system (making tags), tagging and hanging merchandise.
Maintaining an active shop presence on social media: regular posting to the Instagram story, responding to messages via social media, getting creative with Instagram posts, and possibly additional social media responsibilities.
Staffing events + sale days: working major Cake events and sale days when we’re comfortable hosting them again. These can include the Fat Splash pool party, neighborhood garage sale day in May, birthday weekend sale in October, Small Business Saturday, and hopefully more.
Additional/Potential Tasks: modeling clothes posted on our website, helping with website/online shop (photos, descriptions, posts, and order fulfillment), shipping, event planning, extra social media responsibilities, and other opportunities as they come.
Compensation:
Hourly wage for Shop Associates starts at $15/hr with an increase to $16 after 90 days.
Monthly clothing allowance to buy clothes at Cake.
PTO/sick/safe time accrual.
Advancement opportunities:
Eligible for raises twice a year at employee review.
Possible increased hours and promotion opportunities as our shop needs evolve.

Required:
You must be at least 18 years old.
You must be willing to honor Cake’s commitment to body positivity, fat liberation, and social justice.

Ability to wear a mask for a full shift and thoughtfulness around Covid precautions.
desired (But not required):
Be comfortable appearing in photos shared online and on social media.
Be familiar with plus-size brands, shops, and sizing.
Be able to lift at least 20 pounds.
Have relevant retail and customer service experience.
Be familiar with Instagram and Facebook.

We will contact everyone who applies by Jan 17th. At that time, we’ll invite select candidates to share additional application information (like references, a style mood board, and a simple resume) and schedule a virtual interview with Cat over Zoom.
After individual interviews, we will select candidates for in-person group interviews which will take place on Monday, January 22nd 7-8:30PM or Tuesday, January 23rd 3:30-5PM. Offers will be made shortly after and we hope folks can start training in February.
